Able Sail Boats

Our program focuses on the Martin 16 sailboat, which is equipped to cater to physically/cognitively challenged people of all ages. The boats are extremely stable and can be sailed with either a companion instructor in the stern seat or solo by individual sailors who have attained enough experience to "go it alone".The Martin 16 is a keelboat design; easy to maintain and stable in all conditions. The Martin is famous for being "un-tippable and unsinkable".

These boats are very competitive, so sailors who want to advance their skills from casual day sailing to racing are taught the fundamental of sailboat racing under the tutorship of our trained CYA instructors.

Teachers Support Burlington Able Sail

Burlington Able Sail is proud to be the recipient of $4000 from RTOERO District 15 Halton's Project Service to Others. A cheque was presented in a Covid Safe manner on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020. In the photo, Jeannie Woodcroft, District 15 Member and Volunteer with BAS, presents David Groves (centre), President of BAS, and Jim Casey (right), Operations Director, with the cheque. The money will provide for the purchase of new sails for the 3 Martin 16 sailboats. These sails will increase safety, versatility, and ease of sail training.

BAS program focuses on the Martin 16 sailboat, which is equipped to cater to physically/cognitively challenged people of all ages. The boats are extremely stable and can be sailed with either a companion instructor in the stern seat or solo by individual sailors who have attained enough experience to go it alone. Burlington Able Sail operates in partnership with LaSalle Park Community Marina and Burlington Sailing and Boating Club, with support from Volunteers, Summer Jobs Canada, Rotary, and many others. We are grateful for the support from RTOERO District 15 Halton and look forward to demonstrating the new sails this summer.
